The unknown. Can I do it on my own. What will happen after I get out by myself. I have had these talks with my friend for months before she finally got up enough nerve to leave her husband of 21 years. He smoked weed, drank beer and gambled, leaving her solely responsible for all of the bills in their household, which eventually ran her credit to the ground. She kept thinking it would get better and better, but one time she finally asked him, what was his choice, weed/alcohol or his family. He hesitated a second too much and asked why the ultimatum. She said that was her answer and she left. She's doing great now, happier than she can ever remember. She honestly looks about 10-15 years younger now that she's not scowling all of the time. So much more pleasant to be around.
