: Which of the characters is this novel is your favorite? Mine is Pat, with Bets in a close second.
I like Pat quite well, of course, and Bets seems like a lovely girl, but there is so little of her in the book, I don't feel that I got to know her. That's my complaint about these two books: there are some important characters you hardly get to know. Namely, Bets and Mrs. Gardiner. I didn't even miss Bets when she died. She appeared so little in the story, I didn't find that her death left a gap in the life of the book. I think it could have been better done.
Mrs. Gardiner (sorry, slightly off-topic) is another. We're told that she's lovely and wonderful and a good person, but I never see WHY.
That leaves my favorite character to be Judy Plum. She's wonderful! So well drawn, and so much fun. I love Judy! You have to work awfully hard to put anything over on Judy. And the accent was great, too. I enjoyed that very much.
