Having only recently had the opportunity to see Voyager running from the beginning (thanks to Sky One/Sky Mix here in the UK) I was unaware of the character of Kes. My recent viewing of the series has been most pleasurable, but about a month ago they showed the final episodes in which Kes made a regular appearance. Her departure was utterly heartbreaking. Every time she was on the screen I was filled with warmth and fascination... I have a tendency to get attached to characters that seem somewhat out of place, and I always felt that Kes was unlike the rest of the crew. She seemed to lack hostility and anger, instead choosing to see the positive side of any situation. Now when I watch these Voyager reruns (currently nearing the end of season 4) I am filled with longing for the joy I used to feel from knowing Kes was on board. Seven of Nine is actually a good character, but the reasons for introducing her were clearly a half-hearted attempt to pick up ratings. As much as I enjoy rediscovering the humanity in this Borg, I feel the crew lost much of its humanity when Kes left. I also feel a lot of sadness in the fact that the remaining characters seem to be utterly uncaring at the loss of Kes, particularly Neelix. It's almost as if they left the thread hanging, and didn't bother to give her character a satisfying resolution. In fact, that's exactly what they did. Since her departure the only mentions of her character have been fleeting moments when Neelix mentions her. I feel more there could have been much more emotion in these moments than was portrayed, but I guess the producers really wanted us to forget about her and move on. Anyway, that somewhat unnecessary rant brings me to thanking you. I thank you for confirming that I was not alone in my disappointment and sadness that Kes was removed from Voyager prematurely. I enjoyed the early seasons of Voyager, and though that pleasure has waned post-Kes, I do hold out hope that i will eventually accept the loss by the time I get to the end of the show. |

She is a very friendly, gentle, intelligent and charming person not to mention the simple and elegant beauty.I have found her to be one of the main carriers of the Voyager episodes.But after reading about the abrut firing made, I am relly stunned and sad.She is doing so well and yet this happened.How is that possible.I know that Star Trek has had a long and good tradition of upholding values of Universal peace and understanding and yet this which is like a splash of black paint on the long reputation of Star Trek happens.What will Jean Roddenbery say if he were around?His vision of peace and love all shattered just so rating can go up marginally higher in unorthradox fashion?I am absolutely 100% discusted by this. I feel that Kes and I have in many ways things,dreams and persona which are common.No, my dream is not to be a great actor but something else.But from her acting, I can tell that we both do and I feel sad and sorry this happens. All I can say to Jeniffer is that, be true to yourself in the face of evil.You will have many wonderful and great events installed for you in the future.That I can confidently say.Stay cheerful,loving and smart just as Kes is and will always be. As for the Voyager producers, there is always cause and effect in this Universe and you have just stepped on something beyond your imagination,even beyond Q Continueum. And I am sorry to say the effect will not be pretty.All I can say at this point in time is that You all should have had more faith in yourselves and not in some rating game.Bringing Kes back and restoring your faith is the only way you can reverse what will unfold in the future.The decision is yours and it is not beyond your grasp. |
