: I'm a little confused by your answer because in your instructions it says that the sailor is the only one who gets the deduction so you have to divide by the number of people in the house that are not eligible for the deduction. Therefore, in my household there is the sailor, spouse and 2 kids so I would divide by 3 since the sailor gets the deduction. That would mean that the lady who asked the original question would divide by 2 since the sailor adult in that family gets the deduction. Your thoughts? Thanks.
