I'm replying to your posting a year later. This must be how they converse in Buddhist monasteries!!!

I'm an English patriot and I totally agree with your sentiments about Cornwall. It is different from the rest of England, although, apart from Berwick, the dependencies and remaining UK colonies, I regard the rest of my country as indivisible.

However, there are some problems, though not insurmountable ones:-

1. A huge minority of people in Cornwall are immigrants from the rest of the UK. They may even now be over 50%, I don't know. What if they don't want to split with England or the UK? Will they have equal rights in a sovereign, by-lingual Kernow?

2. How are you going to restore the Cornish language? Does anyone still know it? It would be great if you could do this.

3. On your own, could you resist pressure from bigger powers? I don't necessarily mean the English, but, for example, an independent Wales that might regard Cornwall by one of its old names - West Wales (?). I have this vision of Welsh soldiers landing on the beaches near Mousehole!! Remember that the idea of the English as imperialists is largely a myth and that relatively smaller nations might want to demonstrate their 'bigness' in some way. We English would still be the fourth biggest economy in the world, so we wouldn't need to do such a thing. Worth thinking about.
