CommentsBorn in Oregon 1948 second son Elmer and Norma Main(nee Haffey Oxford Neb) . Grandpa named Carrie Clifford(or reversed ) Main and Grandma Lilly nee Jones .Only within the last couple of years have I had something of a mystery explained to me. I knew I had a great uncle named Mud Mables Main . Geneological sources I surfed through cyberspace denied these facts including my own existance tonight on the LDS site where I found this Main/Rose connection .My primary interest at that point was that I had a nephew John Rose born Phx Az early 60's . Different middle name than all the rest of yall Roses .Back to the mystery of Uncle Mud .Mom had a black and white photo of Uncle Mud and others told me he been well known and maybe even notorious in the Bitterroot Moutain area (Montana/Idaho border) as an innkeeper guide hunter and most remarkably marksman/sniper .When people would escape the Montana State Penitentiary (Deer Lodge?) Mud Marbles Main Would be the person on whom to call . He had a brother ( phonetically , I never saw it written) Roral Rotency . The reason their monikers don't sound very Irish is that in the custom of her people their Mom named them after the first maybe magical thing she saw after their birth .I was told starting as an impressionably innocent youngster that those folks would be Blackfoot Sioux . A little wiser this millenium , I understand the two nations were almost if not constantly at war .Amerindinians assimilated like any folks by the taking of warbrides as much as trading or simply traveling . But try as I could I could never figure out how I could have halfbreed great uncles yet be such a Catholic Wasp . Then my Mom lost her current husband and ceased snowbirding away from Phx . Pitching in to pack her off south there came a time I ,she and the recently departed ashes cruised along and I brought up the question . I mean , I knew Granpa as a `sugarbeet rancher" from Ronan , Montana which happens to be smack dab in the middle of the Flathead Indian Reservation .The Federal Government had even sent me a nastygram wondering what could I possibly be thinking claiming some fraction of Indian heritage ?"Well " she said "Did you ever think Grandma could be Grandpa's second wife ?
