It's kinda like if a guy comes and punches you in the face out of nowhere, when you walk by other guys in the same situation you going to be leery. You said it screamed and is cage aggressive which is out of sorts for a conure, I would say that the family was not very nice to him, so from the conures view they terrorized it, and you are the same as them.
I adopted a 4 year old GC, and he bit like a hammer when he came here, and they took good care of him but weren't home allot, it took a few months but he is the sweetest bird now :)
I would just let him come to you, YOU know you won't hurt him, HE doesn't, he has to completely trust you like your other conure does.
One more thing, I don't think I'd let them share the same cage, you never know if he might attack your other conure, you never know what can happen and he might get even worse where he might get possessive.
He likes your conure way more than you, you don't want to make that stronger in his mind.
