We bought an avitech space heater back in October (http://www.avitec.com/Avi-Temp-Infrared-Heat-Panels-p/ihp.htm). During the day and at night I keep the house at about 60 degrees, but Keegan's cage is more like 80 with this thing going.
It really only heats up the area around his cage (and since we have old windows, at night he has his cage cover and a small blanket. And while it was pricier than a space heater, it makes me feel safer since it's on so much--and my electric bill has only gone up by about $7.
