It's like a giant coming at him. You know you won't hurt him, but he doesn't, remember thing bigger than him are predators.
Open the cage, talk to him, read to him, sing to him, let him come to you on his own time, the only true time he'll be your friend is when he trusts you, your forcing him only makes him scared of you and the bonding will take longer.
Make sure the cage is where the cats can never get near him, it will stress him beyond belief and cat saliva is toxic to them.
You'll have him a long time, giving him a few weeks to get settled will go by fast, remember EVERYTHING is new to him, he doesn't know what's good or bad for him.
