A Quick Reminders... Molting and Egg laying

Posted by on July 01, 2009 at 03:52:42:

Molting happens about every six ( 6 ) months giving your birds baths more often will help with dander and the pain of the pin feathers.
Females that are laying eggs should be getting some sort of calcium supplement such as scraping cuttle bone on their food. This is just as good as any bottled supplement sold by pet stores and cheaper :-)
Keeping Flight feathers clipped helps with birds with attitudes and keeps them from Flying out the doors or windows... The First 7 flight feathers should be clipped ( only to the secondary flights )on an adult and the first 5 ( only to the secondary flights ) for a young bird. Clipping should be done only for the bird to glide down, gaining no lift in flight, do not confuse a jumping start for lift.
