Moving

Posted by Megh on May 16, 2009 at 21:02:42:

I have a random question. I will be moving for a year into an area where the closest Avian vet is a half hour away, and I don't have a car. Leaving Jack behind is out of the question; he hates everyone but me (I'd come home to a scene from the Shining with a little blood covered bird right in the middle of it.).

If anything serious should happen, I guess will just end up having a very expensive cab ride...but its the general care I am worried about at the moment. Nails and such.

Jack's nails grow so quickly that he has to have them done about once a month. I'd be willing to do them myself if I could find someone I trust enough to hold him who wasn't afraid of killing him (or of having their fingers eaten).

So. My question is; do those cement perches work? And do they hurt their feet? Would it be bad for his 'sleeping perch' (highest point in the cage) to be cement, or would that be too hard on his feet?
