Slowly change the mix of seed vs pellet, as time goes on reduce the amount of seeds you add to the mix. Also dont put too many of their favorite seeds like sun, flax or they will dig through the bowl for his favorite. Try moistening some pellets to make it look more appetizing. If you feed him colorful pellets then show him they are good by eating fruit cheerios, they look and smell like his food and its ok to let him have a few of these. Remember they like to mimic what you do.
