Hello! My 1-year old GCC Basil has not been molting regularly. For the past 6 months she has been in a semi-molt state (dropping feathers, excess feather dust and constant preening), and for the past month has also been sneezing and sounds congested. We took her to the vet and he first thought she had a fungal infection and prescribed an antibiotic for 3 weeks, but it didn't make a difference. Also being under a heat lamp seemed to have made her itchy and flaky skin worse, but that improved once we gave her more humidity. Now she is off the antibiotic and heat lamp and hasn't gotten worse.
We think because she is not molting properly she has dry skin that is getting up her nasal passages and causing irritation. We started the "Sunshine Factor" supplement in her Harrison's a couple of weeks ago and she hasn't dropped any feathers since.
Other than this condition, Basil has a very healthy diet and routine. She is very happy, active and playful.
What can anyone recommend to help get Basil molt regularly?
