Tempest or Typhoon, Lets dismis the Tempest due to lack of.
Putting a bigger or different engine and box into a Sidevalve special is not as easy as it might appear. i have been through this exersise several times.

1. The rear axle is a torque tube afair. therefore if you loose the gear box you loose the torque tube and the rear axle as they are one unit and inter-dependant.

2. So having lost the rear axle and wheels and brakes (rod brakes remember) we turn to the front.
So you've lost the back wheels and front front brakes as well and the front axle in order to update the front end to match the new powerfull
engine.
But don't forget you have also lost the rod brake pedals so you need to fit a hydraulic system.
Back to the torque tube, with the propshaft gone you now need trailing arms and a panhard rod to control the axle, and a new axle.
Then to finish it off you need tall wheels, not too wide or they will look daft with the old style body. Plus new front suspension, uprights and hubs to take the wheels.

But it gets worse, the end result (2 to 10 years work) if done very very well in the period style is worth £2000 to £6000. Where as a proper period car with tuning bits etc might get over £10K Oh and it leaks water through every gap, is noisy, small, uncomfortable, challenging to drive in the rain, snow, dark etc.

Believe me I,ve been there, got the T shirt, done the 5 re-builds, the 2000 mile rallies, the every day use come wind and rain and the six specials to go with it. (currently working on three or 4,with 4 in driverable/MOT ish condition.)
It's a challenge that I suggest needs to start with the re-building of a standard spec. car before mooving onto a wizz bang special.

I almost did it to my Ashley, then planned a plywood monocoque under a GRP body with Alfa running gear in a sort of Cobra/Ferrari style.
Starting with a Westfield type chassis under a GRP body is the easier way to d it.
