Sir John Commerwell was awarded the Victoria Cross for an operation during the Crimean War in 1855.He led a party to destroy stores of food and achieved the mission.
It was also the Crimean War that brought Irishman Sir Mark Walker his VC in 1854. He jumped over a wall in front of advancing Russians to inspire his men to follow and repel the attack.

The boer War saw John Doogan awarded his VC for risking his life,and suffering grievous wounds while rescuing a fellow officer during a battle at Laing's Nek in South Africa in 1881
