Your messageJust bought a 2 berth Topaz (Around 20 years old I hazard)

I could do with any info re which awning I'd need.

Also need to fit a fire or heater.

Any tips or advice for a first time caravanner.

I must admit the Topaz is really big inside and is holding up well age wise.

Thanks in advance

Your messageWhere you would find parts in New Zealand I really don't know! If you were in the UK I would suggest you contact EECO who make replacement windows.

If you look to the left hand page of our website, click on "LINKS" and a new page will come up with a list of different links, one of which is "Parts * +& Accessories". Click on this one and amongst others there is one for EECO. They will manufacture you a new window but I imagine the shipping cost to NZ may be a bit prohibitive.

Some of the other sites may be able to supply a used window but the same applies about shipping, that's of course if they'll even do it.

Good luck and thanks for visiting our website.

I would say that this is definitely a 1988 model as toilets were fitted as standard in all models well before 1998. To be certain of the year check the serial/chassis number. It will start with a letter followed by two numbers which if it's 1988 will be 88.

Hope this helps, (should affect the price!).

Your messageHello everyone, I am 36 years old and have eventually decided to join the caravan brigade, lol.
I have just got myself a 1992 Sterling Eccles Sapphire 5 berth for a very reasonable price of £800. What I am trying to find out is where I can get hold of some new external badges (Eccles and Sapphire) these have faded and they are the only thing that makes the outside look OLD ;-)
Also any ideas of how the rear bunk should be put up, it looks to me as if I am missing something, I can pull the wooden fold away section out but then what do I do, where does it fix and do I need something to attach it too?
Cheers Simon

Your messageHi All. I impulse-bought a 2-berth Eccles Topaz in August, halfway through a wet week's camping in Whitby. We walked past the gatepost-mounted advert every day and saw the 'van sat on the owner's drive until we couldn't resist any longer. Anyway, it's old and well-used, still in good condition BUT I can't find out its weight. The plate is so faded as to be illegible and its age is unknown, so Internet searches find me only pictures and data concerning the more modern types produced by Sterling. Mine is smaller - the newer models are over 1100kg - and I THINK it weighs under a tonne, but any help would be appreciated. Even good guesses!

I think you'll find the awning size for your 1993 Amethyst is 880cm, same as the 1992 model, the main difference being a change to the external colour scheme. If you are buying new any decent awning supplier should be able to confirm this.

Your messageThanks for the reply. I am not new to caravanning been doing it for last 10 years. We have always thoroughtly cleaned and disinfected our aquaroll and caravan system before each trip and used a filter, never had any problems. But was unsure about not using a filter. I think I will take a leaf out of your book and use a small water carrier for the drinking and cooking water.

Not sure from your message whether you are new to caravanning or not. As a general rule we do not drink water from an aquaroll through the caravan system as even a filter which blocks particles usually wont be effective against bacteria. Normally water from stand pipes on Club, commercial or rally sites is safe to drink or prepare food, (it should be made clear to you if it is not), but we use a seperate container for this purpose.

Your messageI have just paid a deposit on a 2006 Eccles Moonstone. I noticed that the Truma crystal 2 system had nowhere to install a filter. How do people cope without a filter, ie you can drink bottled water but if you are cooking do you have to get the water from a bottle or stand pipe? or is it safe to use the caravan tap water for this?

I suggest you get yourself down to a caravan accessories shop where they will recommend a hitch lock for you. The Alko AKS locks will definitely not fit your Elan unless it's been fitted with an up-to-date hitch which probably isn't possible.

Just bought today an Eccles Coral 1988/89 and the damper for the brakes is knackered - Does anyone know what type I need to get as a replacement (Knott or Al-Ko ??) - Also, info on this model seems rather sparse on the www. Was it a poor seller? can anyone help out with where I could obtain a handbook? Any assistance on these would be a bonus.
