There is a proposed Food Lion and other commercial development slated to go in on Shearers Road and Rocky River Road. As you know, this is PRIME cycling roadway. This will certainly impact the traffic and will change what is now a peaceful country road. Shearers Road is the last North-South corridor between Mooresville and Davidson where you can ride your bike without worrying about traffic running you down at 50+mph. It is odd that with Davidson being so pedestrian and bike friendly, and Mooresville now trying to do the same (Mooresville has established a cycling/pedestrian committee as part of their planning dept.), that this commercial development would happen here - now. This is so out-of-character with Shearers Road. A development such as this would be much better suited to
NC-3. NC-3 is never more than a quarter of a mile from Shearers Road between Mooresville and Davidson. So why put it on Shearers? Good question.
If you feel so inclined, please blast this information out to our fellow cyclists. It is my hope that through our phone calls/letters/emails to the elected officials of Mooresville, that we can stop this development on Shearers Road. A reminder: this could happen, and probably will follow, on Shearers in N. Meck County as well (south of Grey Rd. in Davidson).
