Sometimes I'll start a book and find it hard to get into. If I know it's the type of book I would normally enjoy, sometimes I just put it away and pick it up again later. I've done that with several books and really enjoyed them later. Sometimes I think "now I know why I didn't read it before."

But sometimes I can tell this is a book I am never, ever going to like. I'll either toss it or read the last few pages to see whodunit and then toss it.

I have a bookshelf literally full of books waiting to be read. It's a sickness I have. So I can put one down and come back to it later if I want. Like Lexi said, no point wasting time reading a book I don't like when there are so many.
