We've used it sporadically but now we'll be using it consistently. Can't avoid situations when they're in black and white!
Something else we might try is the "money envelope." The idea is that you decide the budget can support $XX.xx for gas or food or whatever. You put that money into an envelope and when the money is gone, you can't spend any more.
I don't think we'll need to be this extreme, but it's an idea to keep in mind if things have to be this strict.
