I've had my suspicions over the years but it hasn't been bad enough for me to consider medication. He's just entered jr. high and is having trouble keeping track of things, doing his homework, etc. I did some research and he had every symptom of ADD, inattentive. I really do not want to treat with medication. I gave him Coromega (which I take also) and told him it would help him concentrate more. He says "it works." LOL. Well, we know it doesn't work that fast but if he believes it...no harm done :)
: It was recommended I give him medication when he was about 4 but I never did. I started with caffeine though, and it helped (chocolate covered espresso beans). He'd be so groggy from it. How weird how caffeine can affect people so differently!
: Now I just give him fish oil about 5 times a week (big tbsp full) and he takes this, but has only been taking it for about a month, so I really can't tell.
: As for my son on the whole, however, in preschool, age 4-5, he was the busiest little guy you'd ever meet. He'd walk into a room and knock everything over, swing his head around like he was in another world. Couldn't sit through a TV show or story time at school. After 6 months or so of fish oil, and continuing it since (though we did take a break for awhile when his teacher told me he was doing that head thing all spacy, so we started it again) and his teachers say he's not hyper in the least. Once he gets home he's your typical little boy that runs around, jumps on furniture, and tends to be impulsive, but not hyperactive, at least not what I would consider as hyperactive.
: So all in all, it's worked well. I figure fish oil can only be good for you anyway, so it doesn't hurt to try it. It just doesn't work quickly. As I said, it was maybe 6 good months (actually I started by giving him flax seed/seed oils/Omega 3's first) until I saw a huge change, but smaller changes after maybe a month or so.
