What is the significance of thickend nuchal fold on ultrasound of a 22 week fetus? DS (sm)told

told me today that they're being referred to a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist because of thickened nuchal fold on ultrasound. I tried to research online, but it's all pretty confusing. Anybody have experience with this?

- I had a Down's scare 17 yrs ago with that stupid AFP blood test. Had an amnio and everything which of course turned out fine. NM 12:36:22 4/14/2011 (7)

It "can" be a finding in a fetus with Down's syndrome. But too much could be erroneous at this point to panic. They will investigate further. 12:08:03 4/14/2011 (0)
