I think so. First, make sure your numbers are on the Do Not Call registry. - sm

Second, be sure that you don't have a "business" relationship with whoever's calling you. For instance, our mortgage company's "partners" can call to try to sell us insurance or a home warranty or whatever. They are supposed to stop calling if you ask them to, and we do tell them that. Still, if they have a "new" offer, they can still do it til we tell them to stop again.

Read up on the rules.

There are two classes of calls that can call, though I believe you ask them to remove you from their lists. Those are political calls from whoevers on the ballot in your area or a politcal party, and charitable organizations.

If someone keeps calling after you've asked to be removed from their call list, report them.

If it's a collection agency, check on what to do about them. If it's for someone else who has given them your number, kick the call up to a "stupidvisor" and make it clear that you are NOT the party they're interested in and that if they continue calling you, you'll report them - then do it the next time they call. Get names and times and everything you can from them. Do NOT give them any info like SS#, driver's license copy, etc. But, ask them for a portion of the SS# of the person they want to contact. If it's not yours, tell them so. Ask them to MAIL you info on what they're trying to collect.

But keep kicking things up to the next supervisor. Make them make a notation in their records that your phone number does not belong to the person they're interested in.

We used to get calls for a Ginny Reese - my DD is Jenny. THey'd just looked up Reese in the local phone book. After a couple of calls, I realized it was Ginny, not Jenny, they were after, and when I got info on when the debt occurred, I told them that DD didn't even live in the area at that time. THey backed off.

A crazy coincidence happened though. Someone called trying to sell us some kind of service, that a person who had had our number in the past had previously used. THis was something like septic tank cleanout or the like that doesn't need to be done but every few years. The coincidence was that the people who had the number about 5 years before had the same last name!
