Ridiculous things, like tiny sample lipstick, moist perfume toweletts (not a whole pkg, just a couple), plastic rings, used things -- up to when we were teenagers.
Often they didn't make any sense for the age or gender of the reciepent. It was like she just opened her junk drawer, dumped it into a couple of boxes and sent it.
My mom just laughed it off with us. It came to be a joke, we would try to guess what we'd get, like a scavanger hunt.
I know this isn't of any help. I don't have any advice. Just have fun with it, and of course, make the event (using the gift card) fun. Maybe let him invite a friend "on uncle Bro"
