I still think he hates it so much because it's giving him so much trouble. If he's doing so well in the other subjects, then maybe finding reading that focuses on those subjects more than the Dick and Jane stuff might help, too.
You know what I hate? Having to go back over something I just messed up on. LOL - I absolutely HATE proofreading, too. If I were Trey, I would rather keep the mindset of "I'll do it better next time!" than, "Ugh, I'll try it again really quick." Unfortunately, going back and looking over whatever it is you just botched is the best way to guarantee you'll do better next time, but I absolutely hate doing it. LOL.
I swear by the younger reading level books, too. Reading them over, and over, and over, and over again to the point of memorization - my girls do that with Grama. They have their favorite books they HAVE to read when they are with her. I think that's how Katie learned to read so good, she memorized all of those little words and now they just click and fit right in to her head when she sees them in her current books.
I just dropped Emily off at Grama's house with her bag of books she picked out yesterday. They are planning on snuggling up at naptime and reading them all.
Hang in there, he'll get into it. :o)
