hard and fast answer to this. I would do what's in your heart as long as you feel like doing it and as you can afford to. Maybe not on a set schedule though, so that they don't come to expect it in the event you can't do it one time, or if you want to taper off? And if you find any work for him, odd jobs etc, you can always have him do that, as it seems like he is willing to work.
