If applicable, have you properly notified the school of your intent to homeschool? Find out what your state's requirements are for homeschooling. A few states are completely nonregulated; some are regimented with public school methodology (sic); and I believe most are in between, merely requiring academic testing without curriculum qualifications/requirements.
I'm not sure, but I believe there is a link above for the Home School Defense Association that can help you navigate the ins and outs of homeschooling.
Homeschooling does not necessarily mean the parent is THE teacher. There is so much curricula to choose from, based on your child's needs (learning style), your teaching capabilities (teaching style), regimented pace, self paced, stringent record keeping, test record keeping, etc.
You may also find a co-op in your homeschool community that you can participate in w/ your child/ren, either exchanging teaching specialties or paying someone to teach a specialty. YOU are still in charge of what your child/ren is exposed to and you can be confident that your child/ren will learn more of what you WANT them to learn.
I hope I've answered some of your questions. What grade are we talking about? Preschool and Kindergarten is a wonderful time to explore learning styles and teaching styles, still keeping it relaxed and fun. Elementary can give you some ideas on your child/ren's strengths and weaknesses, specifying a more personalized curricula in later years. Junior High and High School are usually more self-paced and the curricula more in-depth for either your child/rens interests/specialties/problems, etc.
For freshly starting out, maybe you'd benefit from a journal of what you and your daughter have done and take it from there. Then you can gradually develop PLANS for further study.
: How do you get started in homeschooling??? I'm really thinking this is the way to go for my daughter, but I just don't "get" how you actually get started in this. I've been doing some searching, talking to people to home school, and I seem to be missing something, because I can't figure out just how to actually start to undertake it.
: Thanks if anyone can offer any suggestions!
