
Joined the Army as an Infantry Junior Leader on Quebec Day 13 Sept 1977 as a 16 year old at Shorncliffe.
A year later i joined 3 Queens in Dover in 8 Pl, C Coy, arriving on a Monday and flying out to Germany as the Pl Radio Op on a major exercise on the Thursday.
After the South Armagh Tour in 1979 i moved to 9 Pl, winners of the march and shoot that year.
In 1980 i moved to Signals Pl completing Standard 11 and the Standard 1 Signals courses, After a spell as the CO's Radio Op i went to D Coy as the Coy RSI, then later became the B Coy RSI.
In 1983 i went back to rifle platoon work as a Section Commander in 6 Pl in Fally, Belfast and Canada also completing a SAA Course and Junior Brecon plus Survival instructor and French Commando Courses (What a fantastic time).
I then went to the Depot at Bassingbourne as a Section Commander for 2 years 85/86 returning to the Bn in time for the Aldergrove tour 88/89 where i was a Pl Sgt for the 2 years (1 Pl then Mortars).
Arriving i Cyprus i was the Mortar 2i/c for the first 6 months till posted as a C/Sgt PSI to Sutton in London.
3 Queens disbanded as my posting finished (1992) and i joined 1 PWRR as it formed as CQMS Y (FSP) Coy for the first 2 years in Colchester and Omagh 92-94. I then became RSWO (Signals WO2) for the 2nd year in Omagh and the 1st year in Canterbury.
I was then the Mortar WO2 for my last 5 years in Canterbury and Tidworth deploying to NI, Canada (several times) and Kosovo for my last few months before retiring after the full wack in Jan 2001.
