In August of this year about 30 men of A COY The 2nd Battalion The Prince of Wales Royal Regiment fought 400 Taliban fighters for nine days defending vitally high ground marked by a lookout tower.Only one PWRR soldier was injured by shrapnel, a L/Cpl Garrsway while 100 insurgents were killed in the battle dubbed The Seige of Roshan Tower. The clash is being compared to the famous Rorke's Drift seige in the Zulu war.
The soldiers, many just teenagers, fought from behind sandbags in a trench on a piece of land no bigger than a tennis court, and used the new .338 sniper rifle to defend themselves.Up to 55 mortar rounds, a day, exploded in the stronghold that overlooks the town of Musa Qala in Helmand Province. After 9 days reinforcements arrived and the Taliban withdrew taking their dead with them.
PAUL I hope this helps a little.
